Change in Drinking Water Disinfection

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL WATER USERS

**CHANGE IN DRINKING WATER DISINFECTION**

City of Mascoutah’s water supplier, SLM Water Commission, began its annual free chlorine flushing on August 17, 2020. During the flushing period, chlorine alone was used as a disinfectant. Most of the year, the disinfectant is a combination of chlorine and ammonia. This temporary change in disinfectant is necessary to ensure that the quality of the water in the distribution system remains. Today, October 28, 2020, SLM Water Commission will be switching back to the normal disinfectant, which is chlorine and ammonia combined. The switch may take approximately one week to reach certain areas.

Dialysis patients and renal care facilities should be aware of these changes and adjust their health care practices accordingly. For questions, please contact your physician or kidney dialysis center. In addition, owners of residential fish aquariums should review their water treatment systems and make modifications if any are needed.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact us at 566-2964 x 502.

We appreciate your cooperation each year during this flushing event.
