Electric

Getting power from the Grid to the homes is what the Electric Distribution System Division specializes in!
The City of Mascoutah furnishes electric service through the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency (IMEA). The Electric Departments top priority is to make sure you receive electricity safely and reliably. The Distribution Line Crew is made up of 8 employees. This division repairs, replace and install electric meters/power lines, including electric meters/power lines to new homes and businesses, installation and maintenance of street and security lights, maintenance of trees/shrubs as warranted, locating/marking facilities as needed by the JULIE system. This division is responsible for reading meters each month for billing purposes.
These employees are critical during storm and ice events, when power is disrupted. Increasingly, electric service must be dependable and available constantly.
The City has upgraded various circuits and portions of circuits over the past years to keep pace with current and future demand. These upgrades typically include larger wires for higher voltage capacity, replacement poles and larger transformers and switches. Current upgrades include a new north substation and transmission line feed from Ameren’s grid located south of town.
The City no longer generates power at the aging plant. This building has been renovated to house the City’s fleet and equipment maintenance service department. This department consists of 2 full-time employees and 3 part-time dispatchers who handle emergency calls during non-working hours, holidays and weekends.
