Notice of Public Hearing, 3-4-2019 - City of Mascoutah Wastewater Facilities Plan & Treatment Plant Improvements

The City of Mascoutah will conduct a Public Hearing on Monday, March 4th, 2019, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm, in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 3 West Main Street, Mascoutah IL  62258.

The purpose of the hearing is for:
Review of Project Summary & Preliminary Environmental Impacts Determination (PEID), for the City of Mascoutah’s Wastewater Facilities Plan & Treatment Plant Improvements. The PEID is available for inspection at City Hall or online at www.mascoutah.org (below).

The City of Mascoutah’s existing Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) was constructed in 1987 and may no longer meet the effluent limit requirements that will be required in the upcoming National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.  Since that time, the City has seen continued growth resulting in an increasing average daily flow received at the WWTP.  Additionally, the WWTP has seen an increase in peak flows during precipitation events as a result of the City’s aging collection system.  The City plans to construct a new WWTP that has a sequencing batch reactor with a biological nutrient removal operation and a chemical backup system.  The project will also include improvements to the 4th Street, North Terminal, Eisenhower, 6th Street, and MidAmerica Lift Stations, as well as the existing lagoons.  These improvements will provide additional treatment capacity and upgrade treatment capabilities in anticipation of more stringent effluent limits.

Anyone interested in this subject may appear and be heard for or against. Comments, Questions, or Requests for further details can be directed to the City Managers Office, 618-566-2964 ext 122.  Comments in writing may be forwarded to the City Managers Office, 3 West Main St, Mascoutah IL 62258.
