The Mascoutah Police Department Announces Distracted Driving and Speed Enforcement Results

The Mascoutah Police Department announced it issued 19 citations for hands-free law violations and the following other citations during April’s Distracted Driving Awareness & Speed Enforcement Campaigns: 

  • Disobeyed Stop Sign – 1
  • Driving while License Suspended/Revoked – 3
  • Failure to Secure Child in a Child Restraint – 2
  •  Failure to Yield – Turning Left – 1
  • Illegal Transportation of Alcohol (Driver) – 1
  • Improper Passing on Left – 1
  • Improper Walking on Highway – 2
  • No Front Registration Plate - 1
  • Obstructing Identification – 1
  • Operating Uninsured Vehicle – 4
  • Operating Vehicle with Suspended Registration – 2
  • Failure to Wear a Seat Belt (Driver) – 4
  • Failure to Wear a Seat Belt (Passenger) – 1
  • Speeding – 17

“We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason – to save lives,” said Lt. Matt Steinkamp. “This increased enforcement was implemented to help motorists avoid the often-deadly consequences of distracted driving with a simple reminder: Drop it and drive.”  

The Mascoutah Police Department joined forces with the Illinois State Police, local law enforcement and highway safety partners for this enforcement effort.  

The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
