Mascoutah Books

The Mascoutah Historical Society has several books and a DVD on the history of Mascoutah available for purchase.  They can be found at several Mascoutah shops, the Mascoutah Public Library, and at the Mascoutah Heritage Museum.

Remembering Mascoutah:  Reflecting On What's Been Going On In Our Hometown by Marilyn Welch

In honor of the Mascoutah Historical Society's 40th anniversary, Marilyn has compiled a series of tales based on her popular newspaper articles from the past few years.  In addition, she has written additional stories that add to the history of many activities from Mascoutah's past, both long ago and recent.

This 200+ page book includes many photographs.

Mascoutah Illinois in the Civil War by Thomas S. Snyder

This book, written to accompany the Historical Society's Civil War exhibit, details the contributions of the men and women during the war years. Chapters entitled Mascoutah Answers the Call, Brave Boys Are They, Camp Life, The Home Front, and The Grand Army of the Republic are supplemented by six appendices highlighting soldiers' careers and burial locations.
