Notice - Sewer Line Testing beginning August 1st

Smoke and dye testing of portions of the City of Mascoutah sewer lines will be conducted by City contractors, RJN Group, beginning August 1 and continuing for two to three weeks, weather permitting.

Locations of testing are:
  • The area between N 10th Street and N County Road including Perrottet Dr., Laura St., Beebe Dr., Joseph Dr., Landmark Dr., Concord Circle, Larkspur Dr., Antique Ln. and Winchester Street.
  • The area between Hunters Trail and Fox Run including Mallard Dr., Canvasback Dr., Pheasant Bend, and Quail Point.
  • The area between N. 6th Street and Lear Lane including Douglas Ave., Lorene Pl., Windshire Dr., Nathan Ave., Aaron Ct., Kristina Ct., and Adam Ct., south of Fuesser Road.
Smoke and dye testing are commonly used methods to evaluate sewers, identify failed sanitary sewers, and locate connections between sanitary and storm sewers.  Dye used will exit the system and is nontoxic.  The smoke you may see coming from the building vent stacks, roof drains, sewer grates, manholes, or other openings in the ground is nontoxic, non-staining, has no odor, is white to gray in color, and creates no fire hazard.  The smoke should not enter your home unless you have defective plumbing or dry plumbing traps.  It is advisable for the home or business owner to pour a gallon of water into any seldom used drain or floor drain prior to the start of testing.  If you do observe smoke coming into your building, note the location of entry and notify the testing crew or Public Works Department at City Hall.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience during this sewer testing activity.
